Miracle Dog: Puppy Wakes Up After Being Euthanized, Earns Second Chance At Life

DAVENPORT, Iowa — A puppy slated to be euthanized is getting a second chance at life after the drugs he was given didn’t take.

Rudolph, estimated to be about 8 months old, was chosen to be put down because of overcrowding at an animal shelter in Oklahoma.

When the veterinarian returned after injecting the euthanasia drugs, the puppy was still awake.

“He’s a miracle dog, absolutely,” Kylie Jo Mitchell, who works at Kings Harvest Pet Rescue No Kill Shelter, told WQAD-TV. The shelter took in the puppy after the incident.

“I’ve never heard of anything like this ever,” Mitchell said.

Jacob Hommer drove 2.5 hours to the Davenport, Iowa, shelter to see Rudolph.

Hommer told the TV station he helps to place dogs for veterans and thinks Rudolph would be a great candidate.

“Having a dog, it’s something to wake up and fight for, and especially, a lot of these vets, they are struggling to find a reason to get up in the day,” Hommer said.

The shelter told the TV channel that Rudolph has been adopted. But it’s not known who adopted him.

“Everybody has been really interested in this boy,” Mitchell said.
