Pit Bull Is Found And Finally Gets To See Her Dad Since The Tragic Accident On I-70

EAST VAIL, Colorado — Chance Patterson said he bears no ill will toward the woman who police say crossed into his lane of Interstate 70 and crashed head-on into him, killing one of his two dogs and putting him in the hospital with multiple broken bones and injuries.

“I just want her to know I’m not mad. She’s alive, I’m alive, and that’s all that matters,” Patterson said.

When rescue workers arrived, they found Patterson’s German shepherd, Carlitos, dead by his side. Izzy, or Isabella, his tan and white pit bull, ran off.

The Colorado State Patrol is charging Samantha Kellenberger, 24, of Denver, with vehicular assault with a DUI, a Class 4 felony, as well as DUI, reckless driving and criminal mischief. She makes her first court appearance at 9 a.m. on Tuesday before Eagle County Court Judge Katharine Sullivan. Kellenberger is free on $7,500 bond, according to the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office.

Finally Izzy gets to see her Dad since the tragic accident on I-70 July 22nd. Chance was going home from work and was hit in a head on collision from a driver crossing over the median of the interstate. Chance’s German Shepherd, Carlitos, was killed on impact and Izzy miraculously survived the crash with only a sprained toe. She was so scared thinking her Dad was dead as well as her fur brother she ran in fear. She was missing for 5 days but always stayed near the crash site. The town of Vail pulled together and with lots of teamwork Izzy was found. She was super scared and we knew she would only go to someone she previously knew. With the help of sightings we were able to track her path. After that we just had to be patient until Izzy found our Leesy Dazl. In fact she was so happy to see her she knocked her over while Lisa was tying her shoe. At that time Chance was still in hospital recovering from 3 surgeries. He was ecstatic to hear the news. But we had to wait until he was strong enough to handle all of Izzy’s kisses. Today was it! We are happy to reunite the two of them.

Chance has a long healing road ahead of him, but with the help of your BEST friend he will be okay.

Best of Luck to you Chance while he heals at a friend’s house outside of Denver area. Izzy will now be by his side.
Rest In Peace Carlitos! You are missed
