Patrick The Pit Bull Inducted Into NJVMA Animal Hall Of Fame

NEWARK, New Jersey – Patrick the Pit Bull, the inspiration for Patrick’s Law sponsored by Senator Tom Kean (R-Union, Somerset, Morris), was inducted into the New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association (NJVMA) Animal Hall of Fame on Sunday, March 9, 2014.

A small Pit Bull-mix dog was starved for months, then placed in a trash bag and thrown 19-stories down a garbage chute… yet he survived because building workers discovered him moving very slightly in the bag, opened it and called the authorities who rushed the dog to Associated Humane Societies Newark Animal Shelter (aka AHS Newark) for emergency veterinary treatment.

This video from the induction ceremony details Patrick’s journey from near death following horrific abuse to full recovery and his new life as a happy, healthy and playful dog living in a loving home. Senator Kean explains how Patrick’s story provided the impetus for a newly enacted law that will deter similar cases of abuse from happening in the future.
