Huxley, Iowa – City Council Says No To Pit Bulls (BS!!!)

HUXLEY, Iowa – Brittney Swanson and her family are preparing to move out of Huxley, after the City Council voted to uphold its ban of Pitbull, ordering the Swanson’s to let go of their dog, Stella, by March 1.

“We have so many friends here, my son is in preschool here, he plays baseball and soccer and he is very connected to the community when we asked him if he would rather have Stella or be in Huxley he said, I’d rather have Stella, so the fact that we just bought this house and we are considering selling it, it makes it hard to breathe”, said Swanson.

Swanson lost the battle to keeping her dog earlier this week, when the City Council voted 4-1 to keep the ban in place, despite hearing the emotional plea.

Swanson and her husband, Zach, moved to Huxley about 2 years ago, they claim that they never saw a ban on Pitbulls. However one month after getting Stella they received an unexpected knock at the door.

“It was the Chief of police he told us I can tell by looking at her that she is the prohibited breed so he told us we would have to prove she wasn’t or get her out of town,” said Swanson.

Residents in Huxley have mixed feelings. Some say that Pitbulls are known for being vicious, while others say if Stella hasn’t done anything to hurt anyone then she should be able to stay.

Statement from the Mayor of Huxley:

“The City of Huxley has for many years had an ordinance in place to prohibit Pitbull’ … we are in the process of reviewing our existing code to determine any changes that should be made to it”
