Dog Recovering From Surgery After Shot In The Face In Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – One local shelter has come to the rescue after a dog named Winnie was shot point blank in the face in Philadelphia.

Just hours away from being euthanized due to the extent of her injuries, the rescue utilized its emergency funds to pay for a three-hour surgery. Surgeons at HOPE Veterinary Specialists say Winnie has a long road to recovery, but her prognosis is good.

The left side of her jaw was destroyed by the bullet, according to the shelter, with large pieces of her jaw needing to be removed. Winnie’s teeth were also knocked out from the force of the bullet.

“She’s a rock star,” Kristen Kidwell of All 4 Paws Rescue told FOX 29. “She’s been a favorite here. Everybody loves her. She’s just a complete sweetheart. I can’t imagine how someone can do something like this.”

“If they’d aimed an inch or so closer to her nose, she’d probably be dead by now, so she’s a lucky little girl,” said Dr. Lindsay Schmidt of HOPE Veterinary Specialists.

“It wasn’t an accident,” Kidwell noted. “This wasn’t done in self-defense. This was malicious and meant to harm.”

All 4 Paws Rescue has set up a GoFundMe to raise money for Winnie’s surgery and medical bills.
